Artist statement

I create paintings and interior décor objects (wall panels, masks, dreamcatchers).

Through my paintings I explore vulnerability, states of being, and human emotion in particular periods of life — how different states surface and how society responds to them. For me, masks are not a way to hide, but a way to inhabit roles and be seen differently.

I work by hand, combining various techniques and materials. I mainly work with paper, acrylic, and texture paste, adding found objects and local materials. Modern life, in my view, is very concentrated around flat screens. I want my work to be experienced not only visually but also in volume and through touch. Papier-mâché appeals to me for its sustainability too: instead of sending paper and cardboard to recycling, I give them a long life in my pieces. Acrylic attracts me for its durability and ability to colour different surfaces and materials. It works beautifully on both volumetric parts of a work and flat canvases, and allows layered work that emphasises texture and makes forms more expressive.

I hope that through my work people connect more deeply with themselves, allowing themselves to live through different states, to explore and accept who they are. These themes grew from personal experience of isolation and a wish to create a space where strangeness is named uniqueness.
